The external envelope of the building incorporates a number of different finishes, including; insulated render, standard render, cedar cladding, rain-screen cladding with a gold effect copper shingle.
The building was designed by Michael Hyde and Associates and the Insuletics external wall insulation system was installed by Telling Blaisdon Ltd under subcontract to Pave Away Construction Ltd
A part of the ongoing expansion of Harper Adams University College, the construction of a new £2m teaching building was required.
The building is predominantly steel framed; with the majority of the external walls being built using a cold rolled Steel Framing System (SFS).
A key architectural detail was required for special projecting coloured stop beads around the windows, doors and the abutments to the curtain walling materials. Insuletics designed, procured and supplied special RAL colour matched beads as part of the overall system design to achieve this architectural feature.
The project brief required that the building achieved a BREEAM very good rating and as such a wall U value of 0.19W/m2K was specified. There was also a requirement that a non-combustible insulation be used within the external wall insulation system in order to satisfy the building insurance fire performance criteria.
As this building formed an extension to the University it was important that the new render achieved a match to the existing render finish, thus Insuletics used its colour scanner to determine the best colour match and as a result the join between the old and the new buildings is seamless.
The Insuletics BBA Approved Insul-Sil E, Silicone Finish Render System was selected for the insulated render areas incorporating a 170mm thick mineral fibre insulation core as this fully met the clients brief for thermal and fire performance.
